Bali Travel Diary: Seminyak

Marie Lozano

I can’t believe I am still suffering from vacation withdrawal. This seems to be the case every time I come back home from an amazing vacation. My latest hangover is from an incredible trip to Bali, Indonesia. Ahhhh…. I am still on a high. I can imagine my travel addiction will only get worse after memorable trips like these. I am left wanting more!

Before this trip, I made a checklist of things to do, places to see, and food to eat (a list that is physically impossible to accomplish in 4 days). Bali is so diverse that there is something for everybody whether you are an adventure seeker, a cultural traveler, a stylish jet-setter or the type who wants to do everything… like me!

Luckily, the amazing team behind Agoda found me a perfect match with a brand new hip hotel called TS Suites located in the trendy Seminyak area. It is right smack in the middle of all the places I wanted to visit too! The challenge for me was actually leaving this cozy hotel to do my sightseeing.

Some of my favorites on this trip were visiting the temples, enjoying the gorgeous beaches, and sampling various mouthwatering dishes! I also wanted to have Julia Roberts' moment of enlightenment with a guru in Ubud (“Eat, pray, love” anyone?). But what really left a mark, were the warm smiles of the Balinese people, who are one of the nicest people I have ever met. I had made instant friends with a young couple and their friends who shared with me their most solemn moments of prayers and offering during the Kuningan festival (the day they believe their ancestors go back to heaven). With so many things to do and see, in the end, I didn’t get to tick everything off my list, but I’m happy since I got to do more than I had imagined. As it turns out, it’s good I didn’t check everything on that list because it has given me a perfect excuse to come back to this great place.

TRAVEL TIPS:

Where to Stay:  TS Suites Seminyak

When the limo driver picked us up from the airport, he explained the extra-ordinary services TS Suites offer from the free mini bar, free all day breakfast to the early and late check-out. This is everything I wish the hotels I stay in would allow so I thought “Ah, this is too good to be true so we are probably lost in translation.” I was wrong! We arrived at 2am and was escorted to a swanky spacious bedroom with the coziest bed. The photos of the hotel doesn’t give it justice. I loved walking under the innovative water roof that made the water dance on the walls when the light hits it. I wish I could have a better description of this great hotel. More than the design, the service of the staff was most impressive. They went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time in Bali.

Where to Eat:

I confess I ate Nasi Goreng everyday even at snack time but I have some recommendations of restaurants to try in the trendy Seminyak district.
